Who We Are

We believe in children, communities, and play as a process.

Why Playwork?

Playwork is a specific approach to supporting children’s play for its own sake, using low-impact techniques to enrich the environment available and facilitate children’s own choices of relationship over time.

Playwork includes decades of theory and practice and offers practical powerful ideas developed in adventure playgrounds and applicable to any environment, within a framework of social justice.

Mission

We love and believe in playwork as a specific approach to working with children, adults and communities, and seek to help ‘hold the heart’ of playwork through reflective conversation, observation and direct practice.

Our mission is to grow the playwork community responsively through quality training, routes to qualification and fieldwork opportunities.  Through public meetings and resources, we want to collect, develop and share the resources people need to make more play possible for all.

Vision

Great playwork cannot be sustained in isolation.  We’re working more closely with specific projects to develop their sites and practices, and to promote playwork nationally as a unique approach to children and communities.

Aims

To connect practitioners with great training opportunities, both in person and online

Work collaboratively with other nonprofits/community groups/individual advocates to apply playwork ethics in other sectors

Keep speaking to the radical heart of what makes playwork unique

Apply playwork ethics across our operations, and reflect upon who we are reaching and how better to support individuals and the movement

Meet the Playwork Collective Core

Our collective includes ‘best practice’ adventure playgrounds across the USA, and highly experienced Playwork trainers.
